Coquitlam to Haida Gwaii: Three Rescued Homes Become Nine Units of Housing for Old Massett Village Council

We are rescuing two high-value homes from an Anthem Properties site in Coquitlam, modernizing them here in Metro Vancouver, and moving them by road and barge to Old Massett — G̲aw Tlagée — on Haida Gwaii. With a third home we rescued earlier this year, each one becomes a triplex: nine units of on-reserve below-market rental housing, directed by Old Massett Village Council and delivered by Renewal Development as project lead, 20-30% more cost-effectively than new construction or modular.

Recognized at the 2026 Land Awards: The shíshálh Nation 10 Home Rescue Project

On June 4, the Real Estate Foundation of BC named the shíshálh Nation 10 Home Rescue Project the winner of the 2026 Land Award for Built Environments. Renewal Development was the project lead: ten high-value homes — well renovated, well maintained and worth far more than their scrap value — left a Port Moody redevelopment site by truck and barge and now provide 17 affordable rental units on shíshálh Nation lands in Sechelt.
