‘Namgis Nation: Cedar Community Gathering Center

The ’Namgis First Nation, Renewal Development, and Bosa Properties have partnered to preserve and relocate a 2,580 sq. ft. Linwood show home once destined for demolition in Delta, BC. In November 2025,  the building was transported by truck and barge to Alert Bay, where it will be repurposed into a community resource centre supporting programs, offices, and services for the ’Namgis people.

The project addresses the urgent infrastructure needs of the remote coastal community.

The ‘Namgis Nation is in urgent need of community infrastructure. We lack office space for our staff and service providers. We have seen the work Renewal Development has done for other First Nations communities, and we are proud to partner with the group to breathe new life into this beautiful building as a much-needed community resource centre.”

— Chief Victor Isaac, ‘Namgis Nation

Show homes and lightly used buildings like this one offer a practical, cost-effective, and climate-resilient alternative to new construction. This is especially true for communities facing high building costs and limited land availability. Every year, hundreds of structures across Metro Vancouver remain in good condition but are demolished due to redevelopment. This project demonstrates what’s possible when those buildings are rescued instead.

“We thank the ‘Namgis Nation for their leadership and Bosa Properties for demonstrating the possibilities of responsible development through partnership.”

— Glyn Lewis, Founder & CEO, Renewal Development

This relocation marks an important first step toward a larger collaboration between the ’Namgis Nation and Renewal Development. One that demonstrates how existing buildings can be preserved, repurposed, and reinvested in coastal communities to enhance their cultural, social, and environmental resilience.
