Three Homes, Second Lives: Coquitlam Home Rescue with Anthem Properties

We’re excited to share a new home rescue project made possible through a partnership with Anthem Properties - one that shows how redevelopment and climate responsibility can move forward together.

In Coquitlam, a land assembly is being prepared to make way for higher-density housing. Like many redevelopment projects across Metro Vancouver, the existing single-family homes on this site were originally slated for demolition. Instead, three of these family homes will be carefully relocated and rescued by Renewal, modernized, and repurposed in a remote coastal First Nations community where safe, durable housing is urgently needed.

These homes have already lived a full life as family dwellings. Through relocation, they’ll begin a second one - supporting new families, new communities, and a more circular approach to housing.

Relocating homes preserves their embodied carbon: the emissions already invested in the materials, structure, and craftsmanship of the building. By keeping these homes intact and in use, we avoid the significant carbon emissions associated with demolition, disposal, and new construction, while delivering high-quality housing at a lower cost and shorter timeline.

Anthem Properties played a key role in making this possible by reallocating their demolition budget to support home relocation and responsible removal. The remaining homes in the land assembly will be carefully deconstructed, prioritizing material recovery and diversion from landfill.

This project reflects a growing shift in how redevelopment can happen in BC: Increasing density where it’s needed, while reducing waste, lowering emissions, and creating meaningful social impact beyond the project site.

We’re proud to work alongside Anthem Properties on this initiative and grateful for their leadership in supporting innovative, climate-forward solutions.

As this project moves ahead, we’ll be sharing updates on the relocation journey and the homes’ transformation as they’re prepared for their next chapter.
