Squamish Nation

Rescue, relocate and repurpose.

Partnership between Renewal Development and the Squamish Nation.

Squamish Nation: Emergency Transition Housing

In 2021 a family purchased a well renovated 1953 1,100 sq. ft rancher in the Edgemont neighbourhood of North Vancouver.

At first, the family looked at adding floor space for their growing family. After consideration the family decided they needed to remove the home to make space for a new higher density residence.

Responsible Removal: Renewal to the Rescue

However, instead of demolishing the home the family engaged Renewal Development to rescue, relocate and repurpose the building in partnership with the Squamish Nation.

Renewal acted as a "one stop shop" responsible removal company. We managed permit applications, service disconnections, site clearing, tree removal, abatement, responsible salvage/demolition and the relocation of the upper main level of the home.

Our service for the North Vancouver family was comparable in cost and a similar timeline as conventional demolition.

Thursday, September 12th: Move Night

Starting in the Edgemont neighbourhood of North Vancouver the rescued home will take a short journey to the Squamish Nation reserve near the Lions Gate Bridge.

Once delivered, Renewal Development will work with local Nation Members and Nation preferred trades to build a basement suite.

Good Cost Efficient Repurposed Housing

Once completed in the Spring of 2025 the duplex will be managed by the Squamish Nation as emergency transition housing for community members in need.
